This community farm will help to expand the variety and scope of practical, nature based learning available in the South West. By partnering with local education providers such as Somerset Skills and Learning along with fellow growing projects, we will create a community space for sharing the wisdoms and skills we need to boost our local resilience and food sovereignty.
Through our initial volunteer days and workshops and the Forest School, we will gradually establish an educational and research centre that is responding to the challenges that we face in today’s society. Demonstrating the benefits of small scale farming, using natural methods for growing food, designing and constructing environmentally friendly, flood resilient spaces and responding to the mental and physical health crisis that we are only just beginning to understand. The remedy to so many of our global crises can be found in the natural world.
“The majority believes that everything hard to comprehend must be very profound. This is incorrect … The highest wisdom is simple and passes through the brain directly into the heart”
Viktor Schauberger
By growing a holistic education platform for all ages, this project will create strands of learning and teaching designed for the new landscape that is emerging. By building the curriculum together and sharing what works, we will create stronger and more resilient communities, informed by the balance of nature, and be better equipped to support the health and vitality of the land and all of its inhabitants for generations to come.
Forest School
The newly sprouting Forest School is welcoming local school children, home education groups and individuals who want to come and learn in nature. We believe in having fun while being in the fresh air, watching things grow and learning about nature, skills, crafts, tool use. Experienced, qualified and insured practitioners lead sessions with an environmental and child-centred ethos. We intend to welcome people wanting to learn how to become a forest school leader in the near future.
“There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothes.”
