We are dedicated to working with the land and the surrounding community in a way that supports people and wildlife to thrive together. Reconnecting to a lost knowledge that informs us without question, how to emulate and be in balance with the natural world or; Remembering our Place in Nature.
By combining a respect for this inherited wisdom with the creative inspiration and innovation brought by today’s young generations, we bridge the past and the future of land custodianship, providing space for evolution in a time of global crisis.
“There is a growing awareness – from the grassroots to academia – that the real economy is the natural world, on which we ultimately depend for all of our needs. Only when we embrace a structural shift in the current economy – away from dependence on a corporate-run global marketplace, towards diversified local systems – will we be able to live in a way that reflects this understanding.”
Local is Our Future: Steps to an Economics of Happiness
Helena Norberg-Hodge
Nature is the most inspirational system of order and chaos on the planet! Whilst recycling energies at every level and creating the potential for thousands of baby plants from a single life cycle from shoot to flower, fruit and then returning to seed. Nature shows us cycles of growth, production and decay as a whole and perfect system that is abundant and can inspire the way we live and work.
As we observe and learn from nature, we find a place of balance in which our life support systems can be simple and our path back to wholeness, enriching and fun.
We will chart and measure our development on the farm using established agroecological standards and apply permaculture principles to guide how we develop the site and project provision. Building life into the soil, creating biodiverse landscapes, recycling nutrients, promoting energy conservation wherever possible and minimising our use of externally-purchased inputs that must be bought from outside the local Glastonbury ecosystem, whether that be energy, fuel, compost or seeds. We will of course avoid the use of pesticides, artificial hormones & GMOs.
We want to support our local community to connect, share knowledge and become more resilient in the times of change that we are in. Recognising that such knowledge-sharing often leads to collective self-organisation and action. One key objective is in supporting our local food network to grow; providing greater access to locally grown food and supporting more local food growers, which will ultimately lead to greater interdependence and more abundance for all.
